Eliminating Reflections
Regular lenses without anti-reflective (A-R) treatments allow approximately 90% light to pass through them. A-R lenses allow up to 99% light to pass through. Well, we need light to see and because A-R lenses offer more light, we see better. Regular lenses that reflect light are extremely annoying to look through because the light reflects on the inside and backside of the lenses too. Most folks notice this at night while driving or watching television. If you are wearing regular lenses, try this. While wearing your eyeglasses bring your hands up to the sides of your face, cup your palms to cover the sides of the lenses and compare. See the difference? The only way to eliminate distracting reflections on the lenses is to apply A-R treatments.
Cosmetically Appealing
When you wear regular lenses, the person looking at you sees light bouncing and scattering off them. Sort of like looking at a two way mirror. If you are wearing regular lenses, try this. Remove your eyeglasses, hold them away from you and look at them in various lighting conditions. See the reflections? This is what other folks see when you are wearing them too. When you wear A-R lenses that eliminate reflections, the person chatting with you can see your eyes more clearly.
Once Bitten Twice Shy
Yesterday’s A-R technology was not nearly scratch resistant as today’s technology. Earlier single layer lenses would peel, craze, scratch and would remain smudgy. Coating manufacturers are now adding scratch resistance, oil resistance and water resistance treatments to the A-R lenses. And today’s premium A-R products are also anti static. What this means to you is that the lenses do not attract dirt, they repel water and oil, are virtually scratch resistant and are easier to keep clean.
