What Are The Oakley Frogskins Collection?

The Frogskins were Oakley's reaction to the need for a lifestyle sunglass when they were first produced in 1985. The Eyeshades had only been produced a year prior, but it had a sporty look to it. Designers at Oakley anticipated that the Oakley Frogskins sunglasses would appeal to a wider audience. That is exactly what happened. It became an immediate classic due to its unisex style and wide range of color possibilities. In addition, it was a period in a pop culture unlike any other. The Terminator was in the box office, Ronald Reagan was in the White House, and Run DMC was in certified gold. It was also during this period that Oakley introduced the Frogskins, a pair of one-of-a-kind sunglasses.

After a few years of success, the Frogskins Oakley were phased out in the early 1990s, but Oakley resurrected in 2007. Oakley has created a few distinct versions of the classic frame since its reappearance. All maintain faithful to Oakley's roots while including some modern touches. All Frogskins models' sizing and frame details are available so you can observe the differences between them.

What is Oakley Frogskins?

The Frogskins are quite similar to the original Frogskins, which were produced in 1985. These, on the other hand, include sculpted hinges and a raised Oakley logo on the temple. The frame is made completely of Oakley's unique O Matter nylon-based material. This is both lightweight and robust so that it can handle all of your daily requirements. In addition, any Oakley Frogskins sunglasses comes with a selection of PRIZM lens options to enhance the vibrancy and enjoyment of your daily activities.

Here's the frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 54 mm
  • Lens Height: 43 mm
  • Bridge: 17 mm
  • Temple: 138 mm
  • Frame Width: 130 mm

Oakley Frogskins Mix

The Frogskins Mix is a contemporary take on traditional sunglass. The temple material is the biggest difference between this model and the original Frogskins. For optimum strength and grip, stainless steel temples are coated with Unobtanium around the ears. The frame front follows the historic design and material cues with a keyhole nose bridge and O Matter frame material and construction.

Here's the frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 54 mm
  • Lens Height: 43 mm
  • Bridge: 17 mm
  • Temple: 140 mm
  • Frame Width: 130 mm

Oakley Frogskins Lite

Thanks to a semi-rimless frame, the Frogskins Lite has a unique look that stays true to the original design. The Unobtanium nosepad is another standout feature. Unfortunately, Oakley's unique Unobtanium grip material gets tackier and stickier as you sweat. Unobtanium is the only frame in the Frogskins family that uses it. The remainder of the frame is entirely made of O Matter.

Here's the frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 63 mm
  • Lens Height: 48 mm
  • Bridge: 10 mm
  • Temple: 138 mm
  • Frame Width: 132 mm

Oakley Frogskins RX

According to some sources, the Frogskins RX is slightly smaller than the Frogskins, but was found out it was roughly the same size. The colors of this frame were created to complement clear prescription lenses. However, prescription lenses are available in the Frogskins, Frogskins Mix, and Frogskins XS here at Eyeglasses123.

Here's the frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 54 mm
  • Lens Height: 44 mm
  • Bridge: 17 mm
  • Temple: 138 mm
  • Frame Width: 135 mm

Oakley Frogskins XS

Why don't the Frogskins come in a smaller size as well? The Frogskins have a medium fit that works well for a wide range of head sizes, but it didn't work for everyone. As a result, Oakley produced the Frogskins XS, a smaller version of the Frogskins. This sunglass is ideal for children and those with tiny heads.

Here's the frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 53 mm
  • Lens Height: 42 mm
  • Bridge: 16 mm
  • Temple: 133 mm
  • Frame Width: 125 mm

Oakley Frogskins XS-RX

This is related to the Frogskins and Frogskins Rx concepts. The Frogskins XS-Rx is the eyeglass version of the Frogskins XS, which is smaller than the sunglass version and comes in two sizes and a variety of fun colors!

Here's the frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 48, 50 mm
  • Lens Height: 39, 40 mm
  • Bridge: 16, 16 mm
  • Temple: 133 mm
  • Frame Width: 125 mm

What is The Difference Between Oakley Frogskins and Frogskins Mix?

The temple materials are the main distinction between Frogskins and Frogskins Mix. The Oakley Frogskins polarized frame is made completely of Oakley's proprietary frame material, O Matter. The front of the Frogskins Mix frame is constructed of O Matter as well. However, the temples are composed of stainless steel and Unobtanium. Unobtanium was used on the back end of the temples, where it makes touch with the top of your ears by Oakley engineers. This improves the frame's grip and overall comfort.

Meanwhile, the Frogskins and Oakley Frogskins Mix have the same frame dimensions:

  • Lens Width: 55 mm
  • Lens Height: 44 mm
  • DBL(Distance Between Lenses): 17 mm
  • Temple Length: 140 mm
  • Frame width: 130 mm

What Are Their Similarities?

Iconic Design. The Frogskins Mix's iconic lens shape and frame design stay loyal to Oakley's heritage. Both models include the classic keyhole nose bridge and O Matter frame front.

PRIZM Lens Technology: PRIZM lenses were created by Oakley to improve contrast in specific conditions. The lenses function by filtering out the distracting hues and amplifying the colors that our eyes are most sensitive to. PRIZM lens technology is available on both models to make your everyday life more bright and entertaining.

Fit. Both of these sunglasses have nearly identical frame proportions. Minor measurements may appear depending on the source, but we tested both frames and found them to be almost similar in size. If you're seeking for a different fit, they are both available in Oakley Frogskins asian fit

Frogskins also have polarized lens alternatives designed to block blinding rays exaggerated by flat surfaces while still providing 100 percent UV and harmful blue light protection.
